Powerline Technician

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

 

Install, repair, and maintain overhead and underground power distribution and transmission lines, including poles, conductors, insulators, transformers, and other equipment.

Conduct inspections and assessments of power lines to identify defects, damage, or signs of wear and tear requiring repair or replacement.

Respond promptly to emergency situations, such as storms, accidents, or equipment failures, to restore power and minimize disruptions to customers.

Adhere to safety protocols, procedures, and regulations governing the operation and maintenance of electrical power systems.

Use personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safe work practices to prevent accidents, injuries, and electrical hazards while working with high-voltage electricity.

Keep accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and equipment inventory for compliance and accountability purposes.

Collaborate with colleagues, supervisors, and other stakeholders to coordinate work schedules, prioritize tasks, and address operational challenges effectively.

Communicate technical information, progress updates, and safety instructions clearly and professionally to team members and external parties.

Participate in training programs, workshops, and continuing education opportunities to enhance technical skills, knowledge of industry best practices, and compliance with regulatory requirements.

Mentor and support apprentices, trainees, and new hires in developing proficiency and competence in powerline maintenance and operations.

 

Qualifications:

Completion of Powerline Technician Apprenticeship. Journeyman Powerline Technician Certificate and Interprovincial Red Seal Certificate

Experience working in the electrical utility industry, specifically in powerline construction, maintenance, or repair

Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment for powerline installation and maintenance tasks.

Physical stamina, dexterity, and ability to work at heights, in varying weather conditions, and in confined spaces.

Valid driver's license and clean driving record required.
